Sol Marie Doran, MA, LMHC, SEP is a somatically & ecologically-oriented counselor committed to wellbeing through connection with self, community, & nature.

They view a variety of symptoms as having a modern cultural context, such as a lack of adequate community, ceremony or ritual, connection with nature, meaningful work connected to one's gifts, natural movement, or soulfulness in general. Nevertheless, they believe in finding ways to thrive.

Their therapy style combines sensitivity & directness, playfulness, sense of humor, advocacy, mindfulness, nature connection, compassion, & embodiment. They are certified in Somatic Experiencing Method® trauma therapy, which is a non-pathologizing, titrated modality that supports nervous system regulation & the metabolization of trauma held in the body.

Sol graduated in 2012 with a master's degree in Clinical Psychology, Somatic Concentration from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. They are licensed as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington State. They are a Somatic Experiencing Method® training assistant and an approved session requirement provider for beginning level students.

They have worked with counseling clients since 2011 & with children in various capacities since 1995 and were a nature connection mentor and trainer for 18 years. They engage in training and practices regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion and are affirming of BIPOC, LGBTQ+ clients, and those with alternative relationship styles.

Their other influences include various cultural creatives, leaders, and mentors. Examples include:

  • Steve Hoskinson- Organic Intelligence, Somatic Experiencing Method

  • Kim Scanlon- No Solos (Expressive Arts and Ritual)

  • Sonya Renee Taylor- The Body is Not an Apology

  • Alua Arthur- Going With Grace (Death Doula Training)

  • Katy Bowman- Movement as Nutrition

They are also influenced by Attachment Theory, Polyvagal Theory, and nature mentoring work.

Sol is a white settler with primarily European ancestry working on Snoqualmie tribe traditional land. They recognize the oppression and genocide of indigenous peoples locally and globally, the horrific history of slavery, and the continued traumatic forces of racism, white supremacy, anti-queerness, and the patriarchy. They also recognize the resilience and joy of members of targeted groups and believe that those of us with privilege need to be accountable, humble, develop true empathy in our hearts, and do so much better.
